(Originally, this Insula was numbered as Reg. II, Insula 13, and then in the 1950’s at the moment of excavation altered to Reg I, Insula 15).

Via della Palestra, looking east along exterior north wall of I.20.5. May 2005. According to Jashemski, the broken amphorae inserted in the top of this wall would have protected the garden from thieves. The large phallus carved in Sarno limestone, painted red, and inserted on the west end of the outside of the north wall gave protection from evil. See Jashemski, W. F., 1993.
